For HO scalers Exactrail has announced the Southern "Big John Hoppers" https://www.exactrail.com/ We N scalers apparently will not see anything new anytime soon!

I would DEFINITELY buy several of those if they were in N scale. The local shortline back home would see some of these very heavily weathered in kaolin service

Yes... they're just recycling N scale already on the shelf. Too bad, the SOU waffle boxes are fantastic and I'd be in for a few of the Big John's myself. Oh well.

Yes, didn't they officially announce they were out of n-scale other than whatever they already had tooling for.   I know it was something like that.

I would be in for at least 3 or 4 Big John's in N.   They were fairly common in the era/area I model.

Didn't AHM/Roco do a covered hopper that might have been a Big John in N in the 60s-70s?

Same with me. Right now, I'm using old Con-Cor covered hoppers painted for Southern's Big Johns. They look good because there's nothing else to compare them to. I have about 10 undecorated Con Cor hopperss waiting to be decaled for Southern. Just gotta buy an airbrush and get the Microscale decals LOL.

I'd get maybe 5 Exactrail Big Johns if they eventually make them in N scale.

Hmm... Exactrail won't
make the Big Johns in N
until Kiz paints/decals
the cars he has...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

I know Con Cor made the hopper (along with AHM/Roco?), as I mentioned in my post just above. When I first saw the hoppers, my eyes got big  :o and I bought a dozen of 'em.

Hmm... yeah. Kiz spent
all my banana money
on 'em...

 :?
the Con-Cor 4 Bay PS-2 was a model of a car that was Never Built for any RR.
havnt seen any Big Johns on the R&D line here for well over a year.
are they still in service in other areas ?
they seem to have replaced them with large Cylinder style cars built by Trinity-Thrall.

I handled two Southern Big Johns in potash service a couple years ago on the MDDE. First and only two I ever saw in person. So with the 10 year extension on it's service life, they're all due or real real close to being due for scrapping.

If I'm remembering how it went down correctly the answer to that is basically yes, but not officially official I believe.
