November Announcements and Updates

Greetings Everyone,

It's that time of year again when everyone starts wondering if there will be a Christmas car this year. Well, wonder no more. This year we are happy to announce the 2014 edition on our new H30 hopper car. This will be the first release of this new body style as all the regular paint schemes are taking the slow route around the globe. Rudolph and the gang are in for a treat as this hopper is carrying Premium Reindeer Feed! 200 copies available, so order yours now.

With this release, we are also happy to announce two new runs on our Milwaukee Road 40' Rib Sided boxcar. First up is yellow band scheme with black ends. 2 road numbers will be available.

The second car is unique as we have added 6 roof hatches to each car, for use in spent grain service. Painted in standard boxcar red, these cars have an orange door with the outline of a familiar logo. 3 road numbers available.

All cars will start shipping on Nov 12. Limited quantities available.

Other News

We will be attending Trainfest in Milwaukee this weekend. Stop by and say Hello, see the new cars, as well as decorated samples of the Transfer Cabooses, B&O Cabooses and H30 hoppers.

Shipping Updates

Those long awaited HO & N Milwaukee Road Transfer Cabooses are finally taking the tropical cruise they deserve. Expected to hit dry land approx Dec 5, we hope to start shipping by Dec 12.

Following those, the N B&O Wagontop Cabooses and N H30 hoppers are currently dockside waiting for the next outbound vessel. The plan is to ship the cabooses in late Dec and H30 hoppers in mid Jan. Soon afterwards should see the N SIlverside Coal Gon, followed by the HO version, and then the HO GP60s. More updates as we get them.

The PRR H30 hopper in Strasburg, PA, has "Deadly poison. Do not touch contents" stenciled on each side.

Glad I didn't buy the NSC roof hatch cars last year! Those are cool, and while they were used by Miller, they did carry spent grain somewhere (animal feed?).  Almost as "rare" are the terminal cabooses that were only used in a couple of places (Chicago, Milwaukee, KC, Twin Cities and the Quad Cities). Wonder how many people model those terminal ops in N scale? I have been waiting years for these to make it to market, since they were first announced by FVM in brass. I wonder if I pre-ordered any of these from a hobby shop??? Can't remember anymore.

In general, lading could be a number of dry powder materials and chemicals, cement being the most common, but also soda ash, powdered coal, lime, sand, sodium nitrate and others.  Typically, they were not used for food items such as sugar or grain.

For those who want the roof-hatch cars, but don't model Milwaukee, Morning Sun Books "Milwaukee Color Guide V. 2" shows one of these cars in Binghamton, NY in June 1970.  They probably appeared at least once almost anywhere in the country.

On a slightly sour note, the 8360 - 8386 series of yellow-stripe cars had wider, 8 or 9 ft, doors.  Most non-Milwaukee fans probably won't notice the difference.
