Merger Between Canadian Pacific and CSX?

I found this article:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/business/2014/10/12/canadian-pacific-railway-and-csx-could-possibly-unite/17156179/

I think it's just a story that got inflated by the press.

Hmm... next thing you
know, BNSF and NS
will be merging...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I just asked my brother what the rumor mill is churning out at work.   :o

He's a trainmaster in Richmond...

If it amounts to anything, we can expect a nice period of patch paint jobs.  CP needs some variety with theirs, it is pretty dull.

Dee:  BNSF and NS would be a good match in more ways than one.  Also, they wouldn't have to change the name, as BNSF could then mean BN-NS-SF, and the NS cars could be restenciled by adding a B and F, although the numbers could be a problem.  Has anyone in North America ever tried 7-digit numbers for freight cars?

Judging by the number of BNSF, and former BNSF lease units, in the NS's Big Sandy area, I sometimes wonder if they haven't already merged.  Then a train comes by with CP, 2 CN, UP, BNSF, NS, and CSX.  7 units, 6 railroads, whose train is it?  That's the only CSX unit I've seen on an NS train.

CN tried to merge with BNSF about 15 years ago and was shut down by the STB.  If the STB has mind to allow consolidation in the industry, there was discussion that I read yesterday that NS and KCS would be ideal further takeover candidates.

BNS^2F  :ashat: is pretty snazzy.  UP-NS would probably just be UP (borg) and CN-KCS would be CN.  Four players sounds about right- let the service decline!

I wouldn't rule it out forever. http://business.financialpost.com/2014/10/14/cn-rail-was-stymied-15-years-ago-on-u-s-rail-merger-will-cp-rail-be-luckier/ Things are probably going to be stirred up no matter what. I agree CN-KCS is a logical next step, too.

First, I thought CN/KCS seemed like a duplicate of CN/IC, and CP/KCS would make more sense..

But after looking at maps.. KCS get you into Texas.. and a CP/KCS merger gets you a single carrier rail pipeline

... And remember a merger with KCS could also get you KCSM..
I know KCS does (or did) alot of business with CP (ICE/DME) Grain markets.
