Hello all...
growing up in NOLA, this bridge was just part of our family's everyday drive from the West Bank....South Louisiana doesn't have any of the mountain pass type of railroading, but it does have bridges and bridges and bridges!
This is still one, if not THE longest railroad bridge in the nation...

/>
this video was taken during the recent modernization of the hwy portion of the bridge-you can see the original vehicular part still in service. Anyone from NOLA knows that this was an 'interesting' drive across the river, especially when a train or two were crossing at the same time!
What a series of modules this would make!!!!!!!
Happy New Year!

Module? If done anywhere close to scale, it would take up my entire layout room. Long indeed. Great video though!

Really enjoyed the video today on New Year's Eve!  What a totally massive structure.  Don't know about turning it into modules/layout, but if that happened, it would certainly be impressive.

Since I'm modeling prototype railroad features on my modular layout, I can get the width pretty close to prototype, but never length.  Nearly all of my LDE's are anywhere from 1/2 to 1/4 the actual prototype length, which means any operational LDE (as opposed to scenic LDE) is at least 12' long, with most of them being 24' long and one (for sure) that will be at least 36' long (in an "L" shape).

Same goes for my freights.  A Big Boy would regularly pull trains of over 4,000 tons, which translates into trains of around 100 cars depending on empties vs loads.  My passing sidings are regulated to a length of 9', 7 1/2", which only accommodates a Big Boy + 30 forty foot cars + a caboose.   One third length essentially.

Anyway, thanks for the video!

I've driven over the Huey P. Long Bridge many times. Before the improvements, it was always terrifying, especially if a train was passing alongside!

Hmm... what makes it
particularly terrifying is
the way Kiz drives...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Bruce,
I had no idea you were a transplanted coona$$!  I agree the HPL would make an interesting FreeMO modular layout; so would the US190 Highway Bridge in North Baton Rouge over the MIssissippi that carries the KCS west across the Mississippi.

lol...the video, of course, shows the bridge (the trusses) as it looks now....the hwy, on both sides of the trackage, goes through the new truss sections built on either side of the center trackage, original truss....all my life, the very narrow highway portions were exposed...with only a short concrete barrier on the outside....oh..and no shoulders
