Sawyer Berry:  Since I can't read the special instructions on the side, could it have hauled a load of potatoes to the Midwest and came back with beer?  No point hauling an empty car around when a load is available, unless the owner insists that it be used ONLY for that one product.

BAR and NH used the cars to ship potatoes in the winter and paper goods in the summer, and Penn Central used them in restricted flour service.  But it's reasonable to assume that cars traveling west and south could have been reloaded with various clean lading for return trips to New England.  The equivalent Canadian National eight-hatch heated/ventilated cars were used for scores of clean lading items.

Great photos!  I officially retract mine.  They are not even in the ballpark!  I love the fact that two of the entries include DL&W/EL equipment.  Bryan is obviously doing something right with ESM!  :D

Great photos!  I officially didn't bother to enter.  I knew those guys would be bringing their A-games.   :D

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Unfortunately, I don't have any ESM rolling stock, so I couldn't enter

I'm hoping to see a number of folks who sat out the last two years to jump into the fray in 2014.  One of the models that will be used for one of the top two 2014 prizes will be revealed in Springfield next month and it is hawt.  Just finished all the track-testing of the RP pilot model yesterday.  8)

You have to use ESM product? That explains why my shot of bachmann old time coaches on kato unitrack and lifelike spring collection trees didn't place!

Bryan:  Thank you!  Now I know what mine will be used for.  There weren't too many Maine potatoes sold in the Northwest in the 1970s, but paper is definitely an option.  We had paper mills, but there were probably paper types not made locally.
