Just for historical completeness.  If I recall they were truely brown, not reddish and had other decoration problems:

On the NHD cars, the color was wrong as was the size of the various graphics.  If I remember correctly, Ak-Sar-Ben painted/printed those cars.  But that was a long time ago so I am not certain.

Thanks in advance.

In addition to the X72, there was also a riveted version that name out a few years prior in 69 or 70. These were referred to as X68. A quick swipe of a chisel blade and some Archer decals would make this a proper X68 as well.

Quick update.
Threw the shells in the old Chameleon stripper this weekend.
Either my twelve year old bottle of Chameleon has lost it's edge.
(I've only stripped a couple hundred HO & N scale shells, what gives!?!)   :|
Or Life Like & Industrial Rail (who now sells the car) got their hands on that crappy Kato paint.
Just in case, I went out and bought a bottle of 91% alcohol.

The 91% will work just fine. I recently stripped about 8 or so of these cars in it.

I should get back to working on these as well. I bought a number of frames from Bryan to put the body on. I have removed all the grab irons and ladder rungs to replace them with wire. THey look pretty good that way. I also removed the brake wheel mechanism and will have to replace that as well. Mine are all going to be PC cars.
