I can tell you that Barber doesn't refer to a specific sideframe design. It refers to how the friction wedges are sprung (Ride Controls have constant spring pressure on the wedges, Barbers have variable, spring pressure, increasing as the bolster goes downward ). ASF for example used the same sideframe for either it's own Ride Control and the Barbers. Scullin also used the same sideframe, albeit a slightly different design than the ASF, for either a Ride Control or Barber.
