LokSound GE 16cyl FDL Early (FT?): "Slow Idle"?
« on: September 14, 2017, 04:18:21 PM »

I've seen a couple videos where the operator activated what one of them called "slow idle" using the LokSound GE 16cyl FDL Early (FT?) sound file. So far, I have not run across this function with my FT version of this file in a Select Micro and cannot find any reference to it anywhere in any of the literature. This is definitely a much slower idle sound than the default idle that they're achieving and I'm pretty certain they are not simply changing the prime mover playback speed CV. Does anyone know if this feature exist with the FT version of this file in a Select Micro and, if so, how does one activate it? John? ;)

Thanks!

Hi Russ.

You've got me on this one.  There is no such thing as "slow idle" in any of the sound slots for that sound file that I can see on my LokProgrammer.

Maybe Russ could contact the author of the video and ask them about this?  Depending on where the video is posted, it might be as easy as leaving a comment.

Can you post a list of what's on each sound slot? Does ESU post this anywhere?

The sound slots are usually listed in the bulletin for each file, though they are shown as the normal function mapping.

This is the GE 16cyl 7FDL Early V2 full throttle bulletin http://projects.esu.eu/projects/print/75834

Than, John. Yeah, this is a bit of a head-scratcher for sure! ;)

I don't have a YouTube account so I don't think I can contact the video authors. One of the videos is from 2014 so this could be a pre "Full Throttle" feature and he is using a V4 decoder as well. It's been a while since I saw the other video where this function gets activated, so I don't know right now how old that one is as I'm still looking for it.

If the video was taken in 2014 then it's most certainly a pre-FT sound file.  The FT files weren't released until summer of 2016.  There could be a slim chance it was a beta test by someone with ESU connections, but I doubt it.

If not a beta, I'm guessing this was a feature from an earlier (pre-FT) version of the sound file which was left out on the FT version. I posted this question on the ESU forum to see if anything shakes out there on this.

Can you post a list of what's on each sound slot? Does ESU post this anywhere?

You can find a table of the Function Key assignments and corresponding sound slot assignments in the file descriptions on the ESU web site.  Go to this link:

http://projects.esu.eu/projectoverviews/2?page=4&count=10&order=date&type=all&cat=2

(this link happens to take you to the page with the GE FDL early file; there are several pages of files).

and then search or scroll for the sound file you want.  Then click on the link that says "Demo Sound and Functions" for that file, and you will get both a demo sound clip and a table showing the function key assignments, corresponding sound slot assignments, and the default volume settings for the assigned sounds.

However, this table does not necessarily list ALL the sound slot assignments.  For that,  you need a LokProgrammer which will list them all.  Here's a screen shot from my LokProgrammer showing the sound slots for this file:

I have several of the early sound-equipped decoders with the fuel saver idle. That, and the brake squeal, seem to have been left out of the full throttle packages, in order to make room for the full throttle features.

Thanks for the info, bnsf971! I had a hunch it was left off the latest version, That said, all of my Full Throttle sound files so far still include an automatic brake squeal.
