I have a 4-4-2 on the way from BLW - ordered long ago when I had some crazy idea about using the mech for a C&NW Atlantic. No idea what I might have been thinking/smoking

That was quick!  I'm partially responsible for that. 
Yesterday, they still had several left (actually couple more than #2s).  BLW was already sold out of #3 yesterday (that is why I ordered them from MBK). Amazing!  Or it just means that Matt didn't produce enough to fill the demand. These were about late in delivery, weren't they?  Last time they were offered only with the Hiawatha train.  I guess that there were lots of modelers wanting to get their hands on the 4-4-2 loco alone (and for a very reasonable price).

My DOA unit was #3, I guess it is a good thing that the logo on the tender is not live or die for me!

It was a very reasonable price, and that's why I was sooooooo tempted.  Had they had the correct decoder in stock (I was really thinking about sound in this locomotive), I would have pulled the trigger.  Whew!

Or they (the LHS) post a small alotment to get them out there and make sales while filling in their dealer orders. Having a live inventory and low numbers forces folks to open their wallets a lot quicker. Most likely you'll see a restock. The Bachman EM-1 #7627 is on its third restock. MTS/MBK often places orders upwards of a hundred of each on locomotives, more when it's a known hot ticket item. Judging that the Hiawatha sets sold very very well, I doubt they only picked up twenty of each number for sale on the website.

When an item like that sells out on MBK website, they usually post a message (in red letters) besides the item stating that it will be restocked soon.  They did that for Athearn Big Boys and Challengers.  Lets hope that they do restock these too (for the sake of all the people who still want them).

Matt is sending me a replacement unit. Geep number board arrived in the mail, installed it and have them pulling my El Cap just for fun!

               After viewing Bill Denton's #1 with a decaled logo applied to the tender from the first run, I ordered the decals and did the same thing. That is why my second locomotive en route from FRT is one of the locomotives with out the tender logo. I just may have to break down and get several more cars to have a "North Woods Hiawatha" train.
