One of the new Bachmann triple-dome tanks arrived in the mail today, the all-black Philly Quartz scheme.  Very nice car.

Bryan, is this scheme prototypically correct?

Thanks!

Mark

Thought it was interesting that Bmann lettered one 3-domer for California wineries, as most used the 6-dome tankers that Mark Watson rendered quite nicely.

Nice to see Bmann have better-quality rolling stock.
Part of the Bmann fun was to take their cheap-o stuff and turn it into something special (or, at least, usable).

Whomever starts making cheap undec basic car shapes with rivets is going to get my attention very quick.
Or maybe I should start figuring out how to make those rivets myself
Nice cars had to buy the California Wine one. But it says San Francisco not Lodi, Ca

Sort of.  All the side the lettering should sit maybe 18" higher and it's missing all frame lettering which there is a bunch.  Also, these cars didn't have the 'stove pipe' type pressure valves (is that what they are?), instead they had a small cap on each dome.  Domes are also about 1' too tall for this particular car, don't know about the other road names.

Well you got me there.  I thoughts these cars were refrigerated, and always thought milk cars ran in express trains.  I always associate milk cars with them funny lookin' butter dish cahs.

My point was... there's a correct wood car in the old Roundhouse car (now Athearn), a correct steel car in the IMRC car, and the IMRC 6-panel would be the closest, IMO, to the more standard looking box car car.

I don't know.  It's a Philadelphia company (Bachmann's longtime location) and the dimensional data appear to be accurate, so I'm leaning toward a yes vote.  The orange and black single dome tank I picked up when they debuted also was the Philly company model.  The New Haven boxcar from last year has a lot of errors.  But I suspect that the schemes they release that are based on private companies local to them are accurate.  Both tanks are nicely done and I wanted a representative of each model, so I played it safe and went with the Philly schemes.

I remember reading about a 6 dome wine car that had a hot box and was set out in southern California (I believe this was in the 1960's sometime). It didn't take long for the local 'wine connoisseurs' to figure out what was in the tank car (due to the advert on the side of the car) and they 'popped the cork' to sample some of the wares. After a few days, the weight of the car was significantly less...
