Is there a singular (and preferably exhaustive) print or web-based resource that provides photos or illustrations of the different types of car (box, reefer and stock) ends, roofs, and doors, and brake gear?  I realize it's a lot to ask, but it would be incredibly helpful in identifying and researching freight cars of the 40s - 70s.

That would be awesome to have available.  Then everyone can be a freight car detail snob!

Maybe I am missing something here...  Don't people want to know these details coming from the perspective of a specific prototype?  Hence, you know what you want to figure out because you are modelling car model XXX from railroad YYY in the period ZZZ.

In a sense, don't these exist with the excellent freight car rosters that have been built up?  I suppose they may not always have shots of the ends, gear, etc., but judging from the knowledge I see posted here, it would not be difficult to come up with a series of "type" images with these details, specific to railroad or model.

I want to know, which is why I asked.  If it doesn't exist, I suppose I'm going to have to start creating it, but my knowledge sure is limited.  Group project!?
