Help with Greyhound Bus Terminal
« on: October 22, 2012, 01:15:10 PM »

My little niece says her Uncle Mark has "old-timers disease" and she's probably right.

A while back some firm was marketing a Greyhound Terminal kit and I've forgotten which company.

Anyone know who?  And more importantly; has anyone built one? Or a kitbash?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mark

This one's from Perma-Scene, but it's a pre-painted solid resin casting, not a kit:

I made the one specific to Flagstaff, AZ:

Somewhere, buried deep in the Atlas Archives, is the entire construction thread.   It's basically Evergreen styrene, pretty basic construction.  The bus was an absolute bear by comparison, that's a Bachmann - heavily fixed, also an Atlas "Classic" forum thread.    The only thing that makes is unusual is that it's about half an inch deep and the bus bay is actually a hole cut into (and through) the backdrop.

I got my inspiration from that postcard.   Go onto Ebay and search for "bus depot" or "bus station" and you'll be stunned by the number of old postcards out there.  Most of these structures aren't that impossible to scratchbuild and you'll get what you really want.

I scratch built a freelanced one based on a composite of many of the features that I found during an on-line search of Greyhound bus depot photos.

Best regards,

Roger

I want those Chevelle & Rambler sedans. (Without the TAXI markings, of course.)

I really wish CMW would put out the Greyhound Scenicruisers in N.  I love mine, but they'd still probably do better.

I am 'almost' as nostalgic about those as passenger trains; and they even get mixed in together.  The '72 cross-country ATSF/SP/UP trip that my layout is based on also featured a short and spectacular ride across the San Francisco Bay Bridge on a Scenicruiser from SFO to Oakland - with the right rear windows smashed out and the wind whipping through the bus going over the bay.   Driver pulled in too tight to the SFO bus platform with the high bus, and made a sharp pull-out when leaving, smashing glass into to the interior.  He just looked up, shook his head, and kept driving, oblivious to the destruction.

I met them again in High School, the local charter bus company had just bought a secondhand one.   When our marching band went on the road, first-chairs and seniors got to ride on it instead of a school bus.   Ah yes, lovingly known and well-remembered as the 'makeout bus'...

Hey Riger,
Any chance you can do a build thread on this?

Ugh, that Sidetrack Laser building is hideous.  It's got good lines but the windows do not fit with the architecture.

The LOC website has plans for a Greyhound station in Scotia OH that would make a rockin' model - http://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?q=Photograph:%20oh1555&fi=number&op=PHRASE&va=exact&co%20=hh&st=gallery&sg%20=%20true  (If the link doesn't work, go to http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/habs_haer/ and search for "greyhound, scotia")
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

It does say that they're Grandt Line windows, so presumable you could reject their reality windows and substitute your own. :)

I learned A LOT in eight years of high school and college marching band trips.  Thankfully the Marching Illini admitted its first female members my freshman year of college  :D
