KarTrak ACI Labels Live On!

We had the pleasure of being stopped by a BNSF coal empties tonight on the way home from class, and as we approached the crossing, the headlights caught a glimpse of a KarTrak label!!!. What a surprise. In 2012? As we watched it pass, there were a bunch more with visible labels. KarTrak as a system has been gone... what?... 20, 25 years?

These were on older (...obviously...) flat-bottomed aluminum tubs which are currently marked for FURX, but clearly were something else before. I caught a BLT date of 1985 on one of them. Coal traffic through here has picked up like crazy in the past few months, so I have to wonder if these lower-capacity cars have been in mothballs for a bunch of years and were resuscitated for the traffic surge, shopped just enough to get new reporting marks and put on the road.

KarTrak labels, indeed. Almost got whiplash from the sudden jerk back to the '70s.

That kind of reminds me of a "rapture is coming" sticker I saw on a light pole of a local supermarket in the early 2000s. The rapture was supposed to occur around 1993 or 1998 (IIRC). The sticker showed signs of age (it was probably stuck there either in the year of the supposed rapture or even before that) but it was in a pretty good overall condition!  I examined it more closely and it was a good quality vinyl sticker.  That made me wonder why in the world would the "rapture people" spend good money on quality stickers instead of just cheap paper stickers if they weren't going to be needed after the rapture.

Biblically we are told no-one will know when the rapture will occur, so it takes some egotistical moron to make such a prediction in the first place, so how can you expect them to make a logical choice of bumper material?

Whenever it happens, me and (all the animals) will remain on this mortal Earth!  Enjoy your life (and model trains) while you are actually alive in flesh and blood!
