I recently picked up the new Kato Silver Streak Zephyr set along with the TCS board for the loco.

How were the twin headlights set up? Did one of them oscillate or have any other effect?

If so has anyone set up their engine to provide the correct lighting effects?

Martin,

The top light should be an oscillating light.  I'm not sure if it is a mars light or some other company. 

Your board will control that function, however, you will need to install a second led or lamp into the top headlight housing to get the desired effect. 

I have not attempted this as of yet; good luck.

I just saw the Kato ad in the MR magazine. It shows that loco with the intense lemon-yellow headlights. Did Kato really revert to using those hideous lemon-yellow LEDs for headlights? I never seen any US-prototype 1:1 locomotive equipped with fog-lights!   :trollface:

They can't seem to decide what they want to do.  They first used lemon-yellow LEDs, then cool white. There were few locos which used warm-white LEDs (which IMO worked quite well), then they experimented with cool white LEDs with amber-tinted light pipes (where some examples didn't really work all that well).  Now they are coming a full circle to lemon-yellow?  Geez!  :facepalm:  Even Christmas LED  lights nowadays are available in warm-white. Kato shouldn't have any problems getting warm-white LEDs.  :|

Mars and Gyralite are pertty much the same sequence.  Just different companies.  At least, from what I've read.

Mars is a rotating figure 8 pattern.  Its somewhat random nature kept crews more alert.

The Gyralite is a standard rotating pattern, more like a sideways beacon. Metra's lights are more this pattern, and I've heard at least one engineer complain that it will put you to sleep sweeping back and forth.
