Hello all...
I've been doing quite a bit of building/bashing. modifying these cars for specific ATSF prototypes....
I like the trucks; I think they look great and I see no real problem in trying to keep them...
What I do NOT like about them is the way they are secured to the body-the bolster arrangement-especially the older friction-fit bolster metal pin-in-cylindrical weight arrangement.
The later versions of this car (Con Cor I imagine) are improved;i.e. the bolster pin is a machined metal bolt that very positively screws tightly into the shorter cylindrical weight. These bolts also benefit from having a very low profile that does not interfere with the center axle.
Has anyone here explored, or is using, a different bolster pin arrangement for these cars?...utilizing the original trucks?
I would enjoy hearing from anyone doing this as to how they've attacked the conversion...barring that, does anyone here have access to more of these newer machined bolster pin 'bolts'?
would anyone have a surplus of these Concor heavyweight trucks, with their corresponding weights and machined bolster bolts?
...And, I may as well ask about experiences with changing wheelsets...I ordered a number of Fox Valley 36" wheelsets listed as replacements for rivarossi sets...not only are the wheels too large in diameter to clear the ouside brake detail, they are too long in length to fit the trucks...lesson learned...as of now I've replaced the wheels with MT low profile wheelsets, but these are not the best fit 'lengthwise'...they roll beautifully but are a little short and are prone to falling out...
Respectfully,
Bruce
