Among the many projects I have going that are creeping forward is an Amtrak "New Englander" consist, which got a significant boost toward completion with the release of the Phase III Amfleets. One of the two Heritage cars included in the consist is the 10-6 "Palm Arch" from the recent Amtrak Phase I four-car set, which I have to modify to appear as
THIS.
In addition to removing the skirts and painting the window frames and hallway handrail, I needed to swap in 41-CDO trucks. This model is originally from the ATSF Super Chief and has screw-on trucks. The only 41-CDO trucks currently available are from the ATSF El Capitan, which are of the clip-on variety. I thought I would have to innovate some way to mount the trucks, but it was far easier than that. It turns out that the bolster hole on both designs is the same diameter. The only modification needed is to remove the little clips on the flexible arms that hold the trucks to the screwless bolster mount.
So, the great news is that any of the current clip-on style trucks can be used on all of the earlier Kato models with screw-on trucks.
