And body-mount the couplers so that the cars don't ride six feet over the rails.

I think I saw one of these parked in front of the CP station in Banff yesterday.  But all these canadian cars look the same to me....

It did have the welded vent covers, but the same car also had its end corrugations covered with welded plates, which made for some very odd looking flat end walls.

Added - the car I saw was like this one:

with a different door than the True Line model.  Never mind.... (but does anyone know why the ends were modified?)

That's a Pullman-Standard car, not remotely similar to the NSC car that the TLT model represents.

and, what kind of door is that ? It looks like it was stamped out of tin..............

It's a common Pullman-Standard type door.

Are these still in use?

I believe the BCIT/BCOL single doors are long gone (I have a shot of one renumbered UNPX, and I've got lots of shots of similar cars with YARR reporting marks, which are probably the former BCOL cars).

The ONT cars are all definitely still in service, as are most of the CNIS and GTW cars. The CP (originally CPI) cars are still around, and I've shot one or two QC cars in the last few years too, even though a majority of the QC marked cars went to QGRY.

There's a couple design variations, and TLT is apparently planning on doing at least two distinct versions:
A later (1980s-90s, pictured on the website) version with 10 end ribs, 10' doors and no corner posts. (CNIS, ONT)
An earlier (late 1970s) version with 9 end ribs, 9' doors and corner posts (CP/CPI, QC, ONT)

Shot these just this past Sunday. Really hoping to see these in N scale someday:

Both of those are the earlier version mentioned above.

So is the "double sheathed" car TLT mentions the original 1967 design car?  The way the narrative reads, the exterior post cars are outside my era. And not that I'll be loading up on these cars at $45 a pop but one or two might be in the cards.

Credit Valley Railway in Streetsville, Ontario is listing the MSRP at $ 29.95 Cnd per car, not $ 45.00... so maybe your budget will stand another couple...?  ;)
Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Yep, that would be this car:

The first NSC exterior post cars (for ONT, CPI and QC) were built in 1977, but it looks like the first TLT release is based on a 1989-90 version of the car, like so:

http://canadianfreightcargallery.ca/cgi-bin/image.pl?i=ont7407_2&o=ont

Here is an earlier car for comparison:

Main differences: number of end ribs, corner posts, tapered vs. straight door posts, door width.
