Horizon Hobby Selling N-Scale Products On eBay?

Has anyone else noticed how many Athearn, Atlas, Bachmann, BLMA, Caboose Industries, Classic Metal Works, Kato, and Model Power N-Scale products Horizon Hobbies has been adding to their newly opened eBay Store?

Although the firm has steadfastly refused to distribute its hobby merchandise to dealers without brick and mortar store locations, Horizon apparently has no qualms about competing (online) with its store-front dealers.

A potential omen for store-front hobby retailers, let's just hope this is not the beginning of a new trend, where distributors/manufacturers focus on direct sales, thereby reducing the number of outlets from which products can be competitively acquired.

Yeah, they've been direct selling on the website for a while, but always at MSRP plus shipping - noncompetitive. Also usually a very poor product selection.

But I just noticed the eBay thing today, too, and my reaction was "WTF". :RUEffinKiddingMe:  It does reek of hypocrisy, but they also could have realized that they were seriously paddling upstream, needing to develop another distribution channel as LHS owners retire, die or otherwise give up on what is a very tenuous business model in the "big box" retailing era.
