I spoke to the horses mouth. These are new runs on the original tooling. The artwork on the IMRC page shows a reprint of the same paint schemes from the HO gons because the artwork for the N scale cars was not ready at press time. The N scale car has 12 ribs and the HO car has 13 so they are slightly different, but the lettering layout will be very similar.

I'm sorry, but that's just wrong and borderline misleading advertising. They need to be called to the mat on this.

It's only shear laziness that they couldn't openly state the N scale model will differ. Much less that they included the HO scale illustration as representing the N scale model and only cited a difference in the photo. The IMRC ad clearly states 54' when the old model's clearly not 54'. Who's the bigger idiot?

I know I shouldn't be surprised but it infuriates me. When it bombs, who will they blame; themselves for being lazy and misleading or the market for not supporting them?   :-X

Man, Con-Cor is starting to act like Bachmann in the 1990's. They put out a halfway decent model every decade and flog the old tooling for all its worth.

I really hope they take a bath with all these new runs of poor products. Even Athearn updated some of their older MDC tooling. I feel the only way CC will learn is if they do belly up.

On a related note, i'm really not holding out much hope for the retooled U50.

They will blame the market.....IF it bombs. It probably won;t bomb. It's a gondola with a load. Not very expensive, modern roads that many model. I bet the run on the schemes is not overly large, the tooling on the original car is already paid for.......it would be hard for it too bomb unless everybody listens to the posts on this thread.

I'd be willing to place a wager that the release will do ok. Did Con-Cor intentionally or un-intentionally misrepresent the car, yes it did. Will it destroy the sales potential, well it cetainly wonlt help. But I'll bet it sells ok, and I'd also be willing to bet that some of the people who posted in this thread will end up getting one or two.

After the BLMA 52' gons were announced, I decided not to buy any more 50' gons. I did pick a couple used 14 panel fixed end ones for a project I had been planning but no more.

I'm sort of fortunate in that my fleet is now large enough (for my wants anyway) that I can be pretty picky about any additions.

On a side note the latest RMC had an article about kitbashing LV 50' gons. ;D

I hope to pick up a couple to add variety to the roster. Beside, I know the Penn Central had them. I forgot to thank Bluford Craig for the correct information.

This should destroy anyone's dream of new tooling - same gons that Concor sold back in the 70's:

Pricing has been updated though!  ;)

Thanks for the update Mark. I think I will pass...and that is the nicest thing I can think of to
say.

Best Wishes, Dave

It seems rather ironic that Mark's link shows a picture of a derailed car..... ::)

For someone modeling something less than modern the Concor gondola would be a good starting point for a usable model, though I would go so far as to replace all the rivet detail with Archer decals to make the car look better and replacing the stirrups and brakewheel.

I've been trying to figure out how to get a model more appropriate for the late-steam era and the Concor model fits the bill, even though its details are course.  For most this likely wouldn't be much of an issue but I lean to a bit more accurate of a look which is why I would go for it.

Yep same old car. Right down to the Sekisui name on the underframe. We've sold a few. Unfortunately they seem to have secured the load in the car.
