IF you got a PR3 that doesn't seem work  ::) try a different usb cable.  We got 2 that had bad cables.  Monoprice is usually fairly cheap for those if you don't have a spare one.

Not
a problem, over 50 stray USB A/B cables drifting about.  Only IEEE 1294 printer cables have had worse quality control over the years.  I have that stash tested with a USB2 hub so there is some confidence.  Years of manufacturers slipping lousy 'B grade'  cables into products made me a Monoprice customer years ago...
