Athearn 2-8-0.

It's a foob Reading I2/I4. Testing the new Dremel workstation, and warming up my skills for some more accurate bashes. A lot of this one is "how am I going to" and just doing it.

Cool beans. I was going to try turning a set of domes last night, but didn't. What did you use for the final shaping? I doubt the whole dome is cut with a tool.

The domes are actually the ones from the model. I was surprised as heck to see that they were brass! I did turn the stack down. I used the Athearn one, chucked it in the dremel, and used a file. It didn't come out perfectly round. (big surprise!) I wish I had some more fabrication tools...

Ahh I see. I bought a small lathe to make domes for my 0-6-0... I'll get around to it.

Nope. I did make a 4-4-0 though. Someone wanted me to build them one and after I got started I just sold them mine. This is how far I got on the new one:

I'd love to see those photos, or a link to a build thread... I thought about doing a camelback with the new 0-6-0.

Chris, I love seeing your stuff. In order to really do what I want, I'm going to need to start etching. Are you using the micromark set? I've read a few things about using toner transfer etching, which I need to get off my butt and try, before getting into more advanced stuff.

I basically use the Micro Mark kit, but for the first 4-4-0 camelback I built I hadn't yet etched a single part.
