Dang...I am posting after Mike's great shots again.

Here is a shot of the Alaska Railroad Seward to Anchorage passenger train waiting in Seward for its 6:00 pm departure. The Power Car trailing the Sd70MAC is a converted E8B that now rides on 2 axle trucks. Seward is the southern terminus of the ARR, where construction started in 1915. There is a coal port there that is currently not used much to export poor quality coal to Asia, so most of the traffic is for cruise ship and general tourist passengers.

Mount Marathon is in the center background. This is the site of the 3rd oldest footrace (allegedly) in the US, having started in 1915 as a bet between a bartender and a geologist. As a geologist, I can attest to the fact that they do have a tendency to hang out in bars. Anyhow, this is a 5 K race that gains around 3000 ft in elevation from the town to the summit. This is the biggest 4th of July spectacle in Alaska as it really something to see. Here is a cool map of the race course (http://www.adn.com/mount-marathon/map/). The record time is 43:23....I prefer to do it as a day hike!

Best wishes, Dave

If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

After the Timonium show, I stopped by Mt. Royal on Monday. Gray, cloudy and spotty rain did not help with the pics, but I love this station and shed.

Got this pic on the east side of the Richmond airport @ Bulah on the way up to the show. Glad I got some images of it before it's eventual replacement.

Went back on Monday between rain showers and got lucky to arrive at the same time as a east bound coal drag. Sorry about the blurry one, poor lighting played hell with the camera.

Those aren't bad photos: the weather just wasn't good. Keep 'em coming. And Dave, as long as you're gonna have to change your pants anyway, a little bit more shouldn't hurt.
