Pulpwood load out.  There was a big one in Hancock that served the mills at Luke, and east to Glatfelters near York.

the loadout in Hancock was neat - basically a track for a few bulk heads and a gravel area...

the parking lot for the WM trail was a transfer area - logging trucks were unloaded and the trees stockpiled while awaiting cars.  the railroad would spot several bulkhead flats and a claw would move trees from the stock pile to the cars.  one of the highlights of stopping at the Park and Dine as a kid.  that and the pie.

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

Five months out of touch here on this thread. Here's my input:

Back in my college summer days, was on a survey crew laying out a the course for a water pipeline through the Lancaster Co, PA countryside.

Pipe came in from Birmingham (ACIPCO) to the PC team track on the Port Line. Flat cars were placed and a lift truck brought in to take the pipe bundles off the flat cars and transfer to flat beds.

A weedy team track would cover this option nicely with some dirt roads.

John,
My vote would be a one street country town. Think Lansdowne with the older wood structures right up on the road and the road practically on the tracks. Everything kinda worn and on the verge of abandonment. Maybe a simple slighlty improved roadbridge to cut across the tracks.

A siding with a  coal truck dump ramp into hoppers waiting on the siding.

Heath, good concept, but not practical.  This scene is right up the line from this...

I'm liking the small town concept.  Maybe a "company town" to support the mining operation.  An abandoned tipple on an old mine head might be a good detail, too.
