So has DA really stopped selling brass wire?

I was in my local hooby shop a couple months ago looking for Detail Associates .008" and .006" brass wire.  After not being able to find it in what seemed like reasonable places, I asked an employee.  He brought me to the HO passenger car details (duh) and said that DA was no longer making these items.  I didn't know how much concern to have based on one person, but now I'm seeing it out of stock at a lot of places.  Does anyone here know what is happening?

I would try phosphor bronze wire from Tichy Train Group:

I buy it direct from them, plus you can load up your order with tons of other goodies there.
