Very nice.  You sure are making it difficult to limit my era to 1960!!!

Very nice, but aren't the Sabine River cars brown, not red?

I know the MDC SRN car was red, but I've never seen such an animal...

Well they must have been repainted, as the brown ones don't look faded.

How about 2 red and 2 brown ones????

Every Sabine River car I've seen was red. I didn't know they came in brown too.
Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

I recall seeing both. When GE took over ITEL Rail, it started charging the short lines extra money to paint cars other than boxcar red. It wanted $40 per car to paint the AN's yellow. After GE sold the ITEL railroads, GBW, FRVR, MCR, and HS, it restencilled a lot of cars SRN for a while.

Not quite brown, but not the cherry red of the model...

And the red ones didn't always stay red (this one's for you, Tom Mann)...

That's interesting, since those two photos look more like faded red than brown...

The only reason I am so insistant on this point is that I had/have a couple of the MDC SRN cars and always wondered why they did them in red instead of brown. These were very common on CR in the 1990's, and I never saw a red one, though perhaps they were not brown either.

True, the first two are boxcar red, but boxcar red can easily appear brown. They're definitely not the bright red of the model (the 1st 2), faded to boxcar red.

To echo my comments from A-board, I don't think there were any brown Sabine River & Northern cars, that I recall.  Wouldn't swear to it, but I saw a BUNCH of these in Texas in the late 80's, including a SR&N railfanning trip, all red.  I think any you see that look brown are weathered as such.

Now, there are some more modern SRN sublettered boxes that also appear brown, but they are retreads from other railroads, and don't have the logo as the originals did.

Again, I'd be fine being proved wrong on this, just my take on it.  Micro-Trains' last release of SRN was a darker red but still not anywhere close to what I'd call brown.  I have a previous Kadee SRN car that is bright red as I remember, and like the MDC cars, et al.  Modeling a later time, I probably should own the darker MT car, but oh well.
