I have some video footage of these beasties in action, and I'd like to caption the video properly.

The video was taken in the early 90s in Hopewell, NJ, where the grade was being lowered under a highway bridge.

Ballast undercutter.

Good for major ballast over haul, and lowering track to increase overhead clearances.

Good video, I've never seen that equipment before.  I guess it gets completely under the rails and ties so the track drops behind it?  I wonder who got that equipment after the split, or if that's the type of thing that's contracted out these days.
