I'm trying to help a friend find the appropriate operating plow coupler for Bachman Spectrum 2-8-0 Consolidation Item # 81154.

Thanks in advance

I would use a MT Z scale # 905 coupler. there is less cutting required on the front pilot.

is there any problem with these things staying coupled? How about pulling strength ..

John:

there's no problem mating a Z scale # 905 to an N scale coupler. I center the Z scale coupler so it sits in the middle of the N scale knuckle. Twenty eight car trains haven't been a problem. That the largest train I run on the JJJ&E. I always use them on steamer front pilots and body mounted to the tenders.

I've also used them on selected diesels and will eventually outfit more diesels in the fleet with these couplers. They do look more prototypical than the N scale coupler. Chuck keeps me well supplied with the #905. ;D

I've been buying them from Chuck for a few years now. Just remember to center them in the center of the N scale knuckle and you'll have no problem.

Sure, he starts you out with the 905, then once you're hooked, he makes you buy 1015's, then 1023's!  Where will it end!  AAaaaargh!

I've always looked at the 905s and pondering converting locos, just never gotten up and decided to do it.
