I have had some autoracks in my collection, but no real reason to run them (proto-wise) until now. South Philly Vehicle Loading/Unloading Facility.

I would assume that CSX delivers these to South Philly?

Ahh yes, good old Packer Ave.

I don't think they use it any more. But yes, CSX did deliver there for a while.

Every time I've gone by it in the past 5 years it's been massively empty. It's a real shame.

Don't forget, there's also the unloading facility in Twin Oaks.

That's actually the PASHA auto terminal. It's not a CSX facility, CSX has their own facility in Twin Oaks. This was actually supposed to be a joint NS/CP facility. It hasn't seen an auto rack train since the early part of the decade. If I recall correctly, it only ever saw a few inbounds. The only traffic it's seen since early 2003 has been the occasional shipment of military equipment for transloading onto ships at the nearby Packer Marine Terminal.

The Toyota yard at Fairfield (next to the west end of the Harbor Tunnel in B'more) is another good example of the auto-loader's art.

I keep a few racks laying around because back in the day, Chrysler had a re-load in Hagerstown...

I don't have any offloading facilities on my layout ...

The things rolled through on the main though.

Twin Oaks is a wimpy version of the ramps at Jessup, MD - 100 racks vs 160+ rack capacity
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=jessup,+md&ie=UTF8&ll=39.136518,-76.788383&spn=0.012616,0.020084&t=h&z=16&om=1

the north lot used to be the ramps, then they added the south lot and ran both of them.  then they added the second south lot and pulled out the north lot ramps.

cars and trash, that's what CSX hauls these days.
