I like those wheels Jason, tell me more about those wheels on this Arnold engine...

They're just the NWSL wheels, 40"/72 tread.

I've heard some complaints about wobble and such, but these seem fine.  I did have to adjust the position of the axle gear for proper fit and operation.

(this reminds me to get a couple more sets before they close the doors)

SNFF 2007 06 02

2 years goes by quickly.   Here's what the beginnings of my N scale Kato Unitrack
ballasting project looked like in July of 2005.



Here's a picture after the ballasting was completed:



How time flies.  Can't believe it was 2 years ago.

Welcome back to the 'wire.  The weathering work looks like its coming along...

Here's the latest from the Western Maryland on the Eastern Shore...
I've been working on scenicking in the temporary loop section of my layout.  You will recall that this stop-gap section was constructed to allow for limited operations for the next couple years while I renovate a bedroom downstairs for my son.  Until then, he shares the train room.





Here are two of the vignettes I'm working on now...



This station is located in the middle of the wye that connects the bulk of the layout to the staging yard.  It reminds me of the WM stations at Confluence and Meyersdale.  It's an ancient AHM structure that I re-worked and painted.



This is located at the apex of the peninsula.  I'm gradually filling in all the holes and figuring out what to build that will:

A) look plausible

B) create operations opportunities

C) possibly be recyclable when the full layout is constructed.

I did finally finish this MRL #259 SD40-2XR for Gordon...

first some facts:
- more than 54 #80 holes drilled by hand
- over 44 BLMA and GMM detail parts glued in and on
- over 65 decals on the shell and sill
....

According to my calculation there should be 55 holes. It looks like you missed one.
Just kidding, it looks great, perfect paint job with crisp separation lines. You should become a consultant for Kato.

I did some detailing work with my newest tool I just got. If you have to get rid of molded on grab iron, you should check it out.
It is called Micro-Chisel from Mission Model.

It comes with a 2mm chisel but I bought the optional 1mm set. The MIO-10 set comes with a half round chisel that fits perfectly into the grab iron grooves of the P42, F and E units to remove those molded grab irons.

It took me about 5 minutes to remove 8 grab irons without damaging the plastic next to it.

The flat chisels work great to remove the grab irons even in tight spots or the cut levers wedged between other molded on parts.

I was at the Northeast Prototype Modeler's Meet this weekend and at a clinic there someone recommended that exact tool. Too bad they are so HO-centric. Lots of very interesting looking work there, pics to get posted sometime this week.
