Yet another MT problem

Looking for something to do in N scale I picked a MT composite gondola out of my stash. Figured I would lower it add Z scale couplers and try my best Tom Mann on it... then I looked online to find anything close to it.

On the left is what it should look like:



You can see I drew a line in pencil and carved out the openings with a Xacto.

Is there anything out there that matches the MT car?

Looks great Chris . Damn , I wasn't aware that they ALL were supposed to have open webbing .

I have one of these things, and it never bothered me... UNTIL NOW.  Geez Chris, doesn't it bother you all the sleepless nights you cause around here?!?!

Don't forget to carve off the rivets down there now that the wood planks are gone.

Rock Island was the same way for sure, most were probably.  MT did this presumably to hide the thcker underframe.  Are you just going to leave the underframe black so it doesn't look too apparent?

RI had some of these converted to TOFC service, but all the wood was removed so just the bridge truss was remaining.  Since you're having fun carving, one of those would be cool too.   ;)

Man, you almost had me in a panic.:o  But thankfully, straight sides.  I distressed the sides and weathered it about ten years ago, and recently lowered it, and added the 905's, lp wheels and the air lines.  I thought I was going have to go back and do more.



And if you noticed the missing stirrup, feel free to send me one since I can't seem to remember to buy one. ;D

Lee, It didn't bother me either till I tried to find one on-line. Then Mt smacked me right in the face with their fiction.

Mike, The underframe would peek through before I touched it, so now it would be even worse. I imagine the underframe will just be strips of sheet lead with no real detail. (P.S. I'm not carving off rivets  :-* )

Jason, You can order just about any MT part, but it has to go through a MT dealer (like Chuck) I have a few packets of stirrups from them along with extra boxcar doors and brakewheels. Usually a whole pack of parts is less than a dollar.
