Baton Rouge Southern 3.0 - a Design discussion

I have a box of N scale locomotive parts (gears, wheelsets, Rivarossi can motors...) could make for nice detritus to scatter around the yard.  An overhead crane over the tracks could also be a useful detail.

I too have some parts, but always happy to have more . . . I am building a wheel rack for including in the scene.  I have a small chain hoist also in the making to add over a track . . . .

I real intention here is to use the front rear track as my programming track, and the rear rear track for display of in-progress locomotive builds (of which I have too many).  The front two tracks are active and live and so will serve to host all manner of stuff shipped in.

I'd recommend paving or graveling even more of the area around the shop so you have more "display space".

I am going to do concrete between the tracks on both ends to support equipment. Beyond that there is a lot of room to add details. It was never going to be a big industry - @DKS is not known for sprawling layouts and a three room fab shop afterall.

Progress comes in fits and starts - this weekend I finished wiring up the lights for Phil's Bayou Another - which is the second @DKS creation on my layout.  I bought this voltage control board off eBay sometime in 2022 ( ) and installed it below the layout:



It can put out 3-12 volts (set with a microslide switch) from dozens of hookups making it perfect for powering LEDs.

Then a switch panel needed to be fabricated since the interior lights and fans are on series circuits:

So here's a plan that grows out of my recent switching on Bernie Kempenski's PoLA HO layout.  Basically he (graciously) adapted his PoLA track plan to my space and in N scale.  So the track plan isn't prototypical for the area, but I've operated it before and enjoyed it.  The industry labels are stand ins for the industries from Baton Rouge that I might want to model.
