E24 Standard

I asked ESU if the new E24 was an open standard and for information on the socket. It is indeed open and they provided this PDF for the pin out and Molex type.

I think it would be great to see adapter boards for older Atlas and Kato engines as well other DCC suppliers take it up.

@TrainzLuver got the same from ESU a couple years ago.

There was a discussion starting here: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=52422.msg726808#msg726808

Just a little more digging...
This should be the mating socket:

According to what @trainzluvr got back from ESU, that is the portion on the Nano.

My understanding is that 5050702422 is the connector ON the Nano decoder (Mainboard), as per the spec sheet they sent me.

Unfortunately, I have not heard back about my other enquiry (mating connector model on the breakout board) so I will follow-up with them.

EDIT 24-Aug-2022:

I was wrong and the above is not correct. Per the sheet ESU sent me, the 5050702422 is the plug needed to mate *with* the Nano decoder.

The receptacle on the Nano board itself is either 5052702412 or 5050662422 (my guess is the latter, being 0.60 mated height).

So what you want is the 5050702422 part which will mate with the Nano for your board.

And to remove any doubt about it, here's a close-up photo of the E24 connector on my ESU Decoder Tester board:

IT IS TINY! So you ought to have some good soldering equipment.

Yes, Digikey sells the part which mates to the connector on the nanos.

I bought couple to do some testing of various outputs.  Since I have a stereo-microscope and precision tip soldering iron I managed to hand solder few very thin magnet wires to the pins, but if you can actually hand solder more than just couple of wires, you are better man than I am!   :D  These sub-miniature connectors are designed to be placed and soldered on a precision industrial SMD PC-board manufacturing equipment.

So, what is the total thickness of the LokSound V5 nano when mated with this E24 board?

So, what is the total thickness of the LokSound V5 nano when mated with this E24 board?

shrink wrapped dimensions
0.827" (21.00mm)  X 0.344" (8.74mm)
Thickness 0.222" (5.65mm)

without shrink wrap
0.796" (20.22mm) X 0.334" (8.48mm)
Thickness 0.169" (4.30mm) with wires spread into single layer
Thickness 0.150" (3.81mm) with no wires (bare solder pads)

Bare board thickness is as baseline when someone wants to use some thinner magnet wires for connections to minimize overall thickness.

I will eventually create a full write up for this decoder like I did for other LokSound decoders
