I have some new finds as well: Hobbylink in Atlanta and Black Forest Hobbies in Phoenix. Hobbylink runs sales, like 28% off Tamiya paints now.

Instead was told that I shouldn't have paid the duty until I knew it was may order.

How the hell does that work????  "Oh Mr. Post Person (or whoever), before I pay you, can I rip apart the package and do an inventory to make sure it was my stuff?  And if it's not, I'm not paying!"

Ikr? I had received many dozens of packages from them over the years without issue, was the one and only time there was a problem of that magnitude. Once they put something in the package that I hadn't ordered and when I let them know they told me to keep it (an MTL undec 2 bay hopper iirc).

"The other day I noticed that Steve Savicz passed away this week."

He was the one who almost always packed my orders, until recently.  I'll miss him.  Whoever is doing it now seems to prefer UPS.  I don't, and tell them, in the comments, to use USPS.  Steve always did, this new person apparently doesn't read comments too well.

I pretty much use Lombard for everything now

I have been looking at them more and more often and placing more orders there. MBK free shipping is offset by a higher price. I do have rewards dollars to spend though.

Never able to do anything with Wig Wag. Tried. Don't ever call or email to see if they have a product. Unless you are actually ordering it, they don't want to hear from you. Of course the old website listed every N scale product ever made, but no indication of it being in stock or sold out. I got an extremely rude response when I inquired about a loco listed as available on their site. I would have bought it if they had it. After two or three similar experiences, I wrote them off.

I truly dislike having to confirm this sentiment, but my experience early on was exactly this. They listed unobtanium without indicating stock status, and wouldn't pull the listing or respond to inquiries whether they really had it. I wrote 'em off, too, but long, long ago.

Tony's Train Exchange has a horrible search engine and unless I am really desperate, I avoid them.

My biggest surprise among new website designs was Toy Train Heaven aka English Model RR Supply aka Bowser's store. They run sales every week. Under the old site you could actually search for something (say Kato) and get results and you could also sort by price. Now you cannot do either. You get 100 sale items, in willy-nilly order which you have to plow through. I have emailed about it but no answer. I told them they have lost sales froom me because of that. I was often buying 1-2 engines a month on sale. Since they have changed, I have bought only one. It is just too tedious to plow through.

I use Lombard for all preoorders. They have been great as have been their prices.

If that place somehow became the only train store on the planet, I'd quit the hobby before I gave them a cent.

About 2 years ago, I attempted to place a sizeable order for back-stock they claimed to have on-hand. I emailed them to confirm availability and was told they were, and "If you wait to order some may have sold in the interim." I reached out to them after waiting almost 3 weeks for a shipping confirmation for the order I placed, and suddenly some of the items were magically changed to pre-order status, and that the order wouldn't ship until everything was on-hand. So I asked if it was possible to just ship what they had, and was ignored. After 2 months of silence I told them to cancel the whole thing and destroy any records of my payment info. Assclowns...

I've always used N Scale Supply to see what new things are coming out. I remember the good old days when there was 4-5+ new releases A DAY instead of 2-3 a week...

Wig-Wag closed their store. Not a mention of this on their website. I discovered this in June when I was in Albuquerque. I called their phone number and was informed they had closed their store and were looking for another location. I found another business operating in their location and it looked like the new business had been there awhile.

Debra replied to me last week after I had sent them a message while searching for an older BLI locomotive. She assured me they are and well and still in business, but did not comment on the state of the website.

I contacted them within the last 60 days and they are still in business.
