Airbrush cleaner for acrylic paints... 1/3 isopropyl alcohol + 2/3 Windex or other blue window cleaner.
Just a short bump to this topic...
I've only ever used windshield washer fluid for both thinning and cleaning up acrylics... Even though it's tinted, the tint is very weak and doesn't affect most paint colors (I wouldn't use it to thin white or bright yellow/orange paint though).
While it is a clever solution (especially if one has plenty of it on-hand), I think that a generic 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is still less expensive (but then again, I haven't looked at the prices of cheap vodka for decades).
Be careful with IPA... It doesn't thin all acrylics. It can turn some of them into goopy or blobby messes. But IPA DOES work extremely well with Tamiya acrylics
Like I said above... Windshield washer fluid (and the alcohol and soap in it) seems to work pretty well for all acrylics I've tried it with. My two youngest sons do a lot of spraying with Vallejo acrylics and use windshield washer fluid exclusively with no issues spraying or cleaning the airbrush (they both use my dual action airbrush for this).
Interesting tips on cleaning solvent based paints Peteski... I've not sprayed solvent based paint through an airbrush in ages, but have had really good luck cleaning spray nozzles with acetone. Even ones that have clogged due to dried paint in the nozzle. Just soak them in acetone for a few hours, then blow them out using compressed air. Works like a charm.
Acetone works great for cleaning up really dirty/clogged airbrushes too... I generally stay away from lacquer thinner. Not nice stuff at all.
