I just wish we could have gotten a more modern ten wheeler. SP (and UP) had such a classic line and powerful feel to them.

Same goes for the Northwestern Pacific engines

I think I'll be going for this.  Looks like I can nibble down the shell of a Bachmann short USRA tender, or a Rivarossi shell, which I have in abundance.
I've worked out a mechanism swap with Chris, so that can be a project during my hiatus.

These cylinders are fairly easy if you have a leftover trix B6 mech.  I have images in my google album linked above.  You can see them on my PRR G5s above.

Those are all some nice models.
Engine has arrived.  Undecorated, dcc version.  Not sure if that makes any difference to fitted details. Tested on DC, control is amazing, strait out the box!  Had to double take that it wasn't a Spectrum.  Coreless motors? Wow.
I have a Bachmann short USRA tender on the way.  What trucks are going to be more accurate?  Aiming to build a freelance
shortline/Maryland and Pennsylvania inspired engine.  Got to say, I'm ignorant of much of what I want to do, but I like to model a fine approach. I like to learn why things were done the way they are. There must be a good drawings reference book somewhere?

. . .
Tested on DC, control is amazing, strait out the box!  Had to double take that it wasn't a Spectrum.  Coreless motors? Wow.

There are several recent Bachman N scale models which use those (inexpensive "3-pole") coreless motors.  Those low-end coreless motors became very popular once being mass produced in China since all those flying toys became popular several years ago.  Most smart phone vibrators also use very small version of a coreless motor.
They do have plenty torque, but not as well made as the higher quality motors from Faulhaber or Maxon.  Those have 5- or 7-pole rotor baskets and use precious metal commutator and brushes for long life.
