Vacationing at a beach in NC this week, and the weather hasn't been cooperating so we've done a bit more exploring than planned. Came across stations in Morehead City and Beaufort that are still in very good condition. Also got a few shots of the railroad drawbridge connecting Morehead City to Radio Island. Must still be in occasional use as there are freight cars stored on Radio Island.  Then got lucky with some grab shots out the car window of a Carolina Coastal RY unit that appears to be a Paducah rebuild (note the Horst air filter and chop nose). Then, on two separate days, we were treated to street-trackage running by NS. The tracks run down the median of US 70 in downtown Morehead City. Wednesday did not disrupt traffic too badly as it was a short train. Today (Friday) however, it created a backup eastbound that lasted for more than 15 minutes.

By any chance do you know if the bridge is still stuck in the air and trains goes to the city over the intracoastal near Myrtle Beach ?

Yes, the Myrtle Beach bridge is still vertical and unlikely to be repaired. There are too few business opportunities downtown and the copper wiring used to lift the bridge was stolen several years back.

They used copper wires to lift the bridge?  I didn't think copper has high tensile strength.

Thanks , I know that at one point they were talking of a dinner train many moons ago . Would have been nice .
