Last Saturday 21 May 2022, former Commonwealth Railways NM class 4-8-0 NM25 has just completed some shunting after arrival in Quorn, South Australia, with the first leg of the 'Afghan Express' from Port Augusta. Passengers have a couple of hours for lunch and to walk around the fringe outback town of Quorn, before heading back to Port Augusta mid- afternoon. The train is operated by the volunteer run Pichi Richi Railway.
Narrow gauge (3'6") NM25, built by Thompsons of Castlemaine (Victoria) in 1925, now hauls many of Pichi Richi Railway's heritage train journeys, on the same track it used to haul the Ghan for the Commonwealth Railways from 1925 to 1956.
