How To Eliminate Ditch Light Leak in FVM ES44?

I've been replacing the stock LEDs on my Fox Valley ES44s with golden white 0603 LEDs; a much more prototypical glow. However, one thing still bothers me about the Fox Valley GEVOs - the ditch light leakage below the anticlimber. It seems there's a gap in the shell that allows the light from the ditch light piping to leak out and when viewed from angles below the rail height, you can easily see it (see picture):

Has anyone found a way to remedy this?

I was just pondering the same thing last night!

In addition to the gap issue, the whole ditchlight housing glows in a low-lit train room...at least on my BNSF unit.

Hmm . . . that sounds like the entire ditch light housing (including the plastic "pipes") is a single clear plastic molding, painted the body color.  If that is the case, not much can be done to fix the problem other than spraying few more coats of paint (start with silver or black, then a top coat of the original color.  Problem is that paint usually pulls away at any sharp edges, allowing the light to shine through.
