just ran across promos for these on the Streamlined Backshops homepage

For Atlas & Intermountain pre 2016 locos (ie same footprint as the V4 73100 boards)
https://www.esu.eu/en/products/loksound/loksound-5-micro-dcc-direct-atlas-legacy/

for Kato E's, F's, SD40F's
https://www.esu.eu/en/products/loksound/loksound-5-micro-dcc-kato-usa-widebody/

The Germans at ESU appear to listen to N scalers a lot better than the Japanese at Kato!!!!

More info here:  ESU Amherst Announcements

It was probably Matt Herman that convinced the ESU mothership in Germany to produce these.

While it is great to see the ESU decoder adapter for the wide-body diesels, because the nano decoder is still installed as a daughter card on top of the adapter cars, there is clearance problems in the E-units so some shell modification is required.  If the decoder circuits was part of the adapter card, it would have fit without shell modification. I know why they are doing it, and don't get me wrong, I'm still happy but not ecstatic.   :)

This may be a dumb question, but is the "Atlas Legacy" a universal board that can work in all sorts of stuff (like a GP40-2, B23-7, U23B and SD50)?

Digitrax, for example, has a number of different decoders for those (well, two at least). Is this board designed with the right contact points for both styles of unit?

It's supposed to be a replacement for the 73100 ESU Select decoder - Examined by Peteski in this thread: https://www.therailwire.net/forum/index.php?topic=44324.msg569571#msg569571

We don't know yet if it's an exact replacement - that is, the circuit board has the same exact shape and pad location.  So far on the ESU site it's just a CAD representation so presumably could change.

If it turns out to be the same outline then it should fit most older Atlas hood units without too much modification to the frame.

The 73100 board was not a drop-in fit with the Atlas SD50/60/60M. The frame had to be modified some for those to work. I'm assuming it will be the same with the new board too.
