I've sent another email to ESU Europe to find out which one exact receptacle they are using on the connector board.

Based on the datasheet for 5050702422, it mates with 505066 and 505270 series Receptacles.

But, looking at the details up close, I think we want to go with 505066 series, because the stack height (connector+receptacle) is lower - every little bit matters. :)

Well my order from Streamlined Backshop just got here (two days earlier than original USPS estimate!).   The install I was hoping to use one for is an older Atlas Trainman GP15.  The older 73100 decoder worked well on these, but I was hoping not to do major frame surgery to fit the Nano in.  Unfortunately, while the decoder fits into the hood nicely, and also has the footprint to fit over the motor cradle (with milling), the added thickness still would lift the shell about 0.7mm!  That is too much even for interior shell sanding.

Plan B is to go ahead and use a 58721 (LS 5 Atlas drop in), and just mill the board channel out, using wires to go from decoder to motor contacts.  This will be a "Kapton Tape is my friend" installation.

My friends, ESU Europe came through!

Here are the specs for the Nano connector with a pinout configuration.

I've also mentioned to their support about our "beef" with the new connector board making the whole thing thicker and wider as well.

Looking at this connector detail, I think it might be possible to desolder the connector and attach wires directly to the board, although these wires would have to be magnet wire so that they can fit the 0.35mm pitch. Not sure until I can try, but need to get my hands on one of these first...

Hmm.  I'm looking at pinout #8 - +U CAP; how is this different than +U?  I'm ASSUMING +U goes to cap +, and GND is the return, but I find it curious we have two choices on the pinout, but one choice on the board.  And, which one do we get on the breakout board?

@trainzluvr   Did you ever hear back on this?  I tried some close up photos on my disassembled Nano but it's hard to tell from the data sheet drawings if it is the plug or the socket on the Nano decoder.

I'm not sure about +U and +U CAP - perhaps that's how they designed it (different signal network names in their EDA software) but the same physical connection. Someone with a Nano decoder could verify physical connectivity between the two pins?

Unfortunately, I have not heard back about my other enquiry (mating connector model on the breakout board) so I will follow-up with them.


EDIT 24-Aug-2022:

I was wrong and the above is not correct. Per the sheet ESU sent me, the 5050702422 is the plug needed to mate *with* the Nano decoder.

The receptacle on the Nano board itself is either 5052702412 or 5050662422 (my guess is the latter, being 0.60 mated height).

I'll know by Friday as long as USPS isn't late.  I ordered both plug and socket from DigiKey and we can see which works.
