BLI PRR T1

Question about a BLI T1. I been running four of these and doublehead most of the time just because it looks good. Anyway i have one unit that is running slower and slower each time I take her out, also I run that one by itself.     All else is in good order except for the speed keeps dropping. I tried a few setting with the CVs etc but that did no good.   Does anyone think it may be the motor ? Or do we have other options ?

Thank you,
KTB

Well, if you have 4 identical models, and the deciders are set the same way on all 4, and one is running differently (slower) than the other 3, then most likely it is a mechanical problem.  As for what specifically - that is difficult to asses at this point.  Could be motor, lack of lubrication, or mechanical binding.  I suppose there is a chance that the decoder is failing and causing the problem, but it seems more likely to be mechanical issue.

For troubleshooting purposes you could swap the decoder between the misbehaving and good decoder and see if the problem follows the decoder.  If it does, then the decoder is faulty, if the problem stays with the model, then it is a mechanical problem.  If the tender can be disconnected from the loco, that would make the decoder swap easy -- just swap the complete tenders with the decoders inside. Owning multiple identical models makes troubleshooting easier.

dummy me, why didn't I think of that simple solution.  I'll try the tender swap and repost later, thanks.

Eh, don't feel bad. I troubleshoot things for a living, so my mind is sometimes capable of what's called "analytical troubleshooting".

Yeah I get it. I'm a machinist for Timken / Phily Gear so I notice a lot of off and odd  things too in gear boxes.  My excuse would be that I think it was easier to ask for a solution for a common problem perhaps rather then invest the time to figure it out on my own and waste time i don't have right now.
Or lazy maybe. No too many irons in the fire.

Lets see how a different tender works. :)
