I have two pairs of NJI crossing gates/flashers.  When I talk about them to visitors I tell them that I have more money and more time invested in them than anything else on my layout.

From the novice consumer standpoint......everybody asks about working signals....till I tell them the real cost to make them function. There just aren't that many people willing to pay what they are cost. Unfortunately even as prevalent as they are in the real world, it's a small niche item for the majority of model railroaders...and once you do one, every other crossing on the layout is naked without them.
Right on.
Which is why I amd glad I have exactly one crossing with working flashers and two other crossings that are rural enough "back roads" that I can just use plain crossbucks for those.

Incidentally, my flashing crossbucks (no gates) are by Berkshire Junction.  Their website still looks like they are in business, but you have to call or email to buy anything.  Also, while they show the crossbucks in N, HO, S and O scales, they only show a price for HO, S, and O.  I don't know that that means, but since all the prices are the same, I'd assume they still make the N Scale ones.
