The Rapido Trains newsletter that came today has some very interesting photos of pre-production samples of their HO 1980s Chevrolet Caprice and Impala models.  https://rapidotrains.com/products/ho-scale/model-vehicles/ho-scale-chevrolet-caprice-impala

The Rapido Trains newsletter also had a new video that features a decorated pre-production sample of their N scale New Look bus.  http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001WsG6I975YFVkqa9nb5bBUM4c1Y-tK8xCXxlZTOQsIlVSKGD9_geloUj-oIpfApjB9C41DlxYGTZER5DjkcqNd3XiyFFg_MdSTE-qGU3RfWa53Lgze70FGbfGmC-0eVTBm5797H_YTA8SL1ap_mYNsg==&c=FPGzI0GYvFo7B7aadZpDwkwrPHxz3XAGgK8o_nQV8wFsZK2DFTvZUw==&ch=_ovHogSzrj6_r4dIhP6UUFDPDugVoIcInI2HElknWSqhdefRJB_avA==

The reason this of interest to me is because I am hopeful that if the N scale version of the New Look bus is successful, maybe they will feel compelled to "shrink" the HO Caprice and Impala models down to 1:160.   :D

Had a real one (1979 wagon).  Don't want a miniature reminder of it.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Oh sweet, mid to late 80's has seemed like a bit of a hole in the HO automobile scene.

YES!!!!1!!111!!!1one!!!  I desperately need some U.S. domestic cars that were on the road in the early- to mid-1980s.  This fits the bill.   Thank you, @rapidotrains!  I hope you sell the heck out of these, so that you may follow up with Ford and Dodge models for that era.

Doubt they can survive the special effects used in the New Look Bus video.

Didn't CMW make a model of one of those?
Yeah I know, the terms "CMW" and "fine N scale scale model" don't really seem to go together.   Still I seem to recall that it was one of CMW's better offerings (and that says a lot).

They made a 1978 Impala.  It was actually pretty danged decent. I have a bunch of them that I picked up when the LHS went under.

They didn’t seem to sell very well around here because everyone seemed to model 50’s or modern.  I am one of the very few that I know that models 70’s-80’s. I am considered a niche kind of guy here.

Yeah, compared to some of their other N scale models, these actually look acceptable. I think friend of mine has a red one (Fire Chief's car?) on his layout.

I have one in the exact same brown colour in HO.

As a mid-1980s modeller, good 1970s-80s cars and trucks are right in my zone... of course I'm modelling a remote territory that while it needs some vehicles, doesn't need a lot. And pickup trucks and 4x4s would be popular.
