Micro-Trains October 2021 Weathered Release

I was excited to see the ex-Golden West Service covered hopper 2-pack, until I realized the road numbers are for the ACF pre-1972 4460 Center Flows.   :(  https://www.micro-trains.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=63_69&product_id=4141

However, maybe I will get the set and renumber them for post-1972 ACF 4650 Center Flows.  Those seem to be less common, but I did find a couple of them.  http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1076894 and http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=5529867

The other weathered release for October is a 2-pack of Virginian open hoppers.  https://www.micro-trains.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=63_69&product_id=4140

I have not bought M-T covered hoppers in a long time.

Do these weathered hoppers have body-mount couplers?

For those of us that just like nice things and don't care about the detail, those Golden West hoppers are a must have.

Still disappointed in no Halloween related graffiti/weathered release this year  :(

Thanks Carter!

Here's the proto for one of the VGN cars (27020, in 1984): http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsPicture.aspx?id=901493

The other car in the set is faded well beyond anything I've ever seen on N&W/NS, but maybe they have a photo.

I would be tempted to buy it for 27020, though the fading is probably well beyond anything seen in 1975 (my layout "era").

Bill,

I cannot answer your question with absolute authority, but the OOTON BEET (SWW 73540) ACF 4650 that Micro-Trains released last April has truck mounted couplers.  That car is my most recent purchase of this body style, so I am thinking the ex-Golden West Service cars in the 2-pack announced for this month will most likely have truck mounted couplers.

Thanks, Carter.

I have been doing my best to enlarge the photos of these and it looks like truck-mounted couplers.

As I have down-sized my rolling stock and efforts overall, I have become more interested in running all body-mounted couplers, and buying MT weathered cars.

Athearn has the ACF 4600 Centerflow in both pre-1972 and post-1972 body styles, but not the 4650.  I plan to go ahead and get the MT 2-pack with the plan to change the numbers to match post-1972 cars that have been "patched" for either SP or SSW.

I mean a prototype Halloween related graffiti/weathered car like they've done for the last 10 years or so, starting with the jackolantern covered hopper.  My birthday is Halloween so I've been sure to get the car every year, even if it was a well car or autorack (my subdivision doesn't see intermodal or rack traffic)
