They still use lead weights?  I thought they were all made of steel nowadays (new environmental laws).  And we used to play with lead toy solders  . . .

I just bought wheel weights ( I use them for EMD generators). They are zinc. Not very useful, impossible to cut in half. Too big to fit on n scale models. !/4 ounce of lead was much smaller.

My preference for adding weight to rolling stock and locomotives is 3M's lead tape.  One or two layers on the bottom of a loco's trucks adds much needed weight for traction.

I didn’t know such a product existed, thank you, that sounds very useful! How thick is the tape or conversely, how much would a say 1” square weigh?

OOPS -- My bad. the tape I have been using is Scotch 420 3308-5-11   1 inch wide adhesive backed lead tape.

Found the "newest roll"  3M 421 HD 9170-07  not as happy with this, as it is difficult to get off the roll.

So, looking at the specs, the lead is only .16mm thick...slightly over six one thousands. Is that the product used to add weight?
