Aged Concrete

I am galaxy far, far away and a long time ago, there was a discussion (perhaps on the A Board) that recommend a Krylon spray paint for achieving that  aged concrete look.

Anyone remember what colour it was?

Not what I remember, but thanks.   I'll give it a try.

Aged concrete can be all over the board.  Can you post a photo of what you're after?

Sorry Tom, I can't.  My goal is a moderately aged concrete slab in front of a small, generic RR station.

But I do seem to recall that the original thread was about finding a paint for concrete or grain silos if that help jog anyone's memory.

This thread, started by John, has some possibilities for concrete, new and aged.

The answer to this question can vary greatly depending on the region/location, climate & type of sand/aggregate used. Get a good photo or, better still, try to take your color cards to some concrete structure of similar age and try to match that color.

Also, the scale being modeled has a huge impact on the amount of surface texture needed to be visually correct. One of the biggest mistakes I’ve made in the past was using textures & materials that were too coarse for n-scale. It might look ok initially, but fails terribly when photographed.

If you're ok using waterproof paper, you could look at Textures.com and stitch together something.

Yes. This is the perfect thing to use. Done that same thing myself. If I remember correctly Lance Mindheim did it ages ago with a small bridge, piers and such in a long ago MR.
