Well I'm already not a fan of the downvotes coming back.  Got a -1 on my post about the fire at NS HSC.  WTH

Well, your lone down vote is gone, at this point.  But, why?  Did the guy who down-voted take it back?  Did somebody see your post and up-vote you to counteract the down vote?  I really don't see how this system is supposed to provide "feedback" to us so that we can all learn to be "better".

A system that shows total down votes and total up votes would at least be less ambiguous.  The way it is, 500 people could be upset with a post and 499 could like it, so the net would be -1.  So, a post that is causing a war could look no different than a post that one person accidentally down voted.

I don't understand how something so simple is bunching up the TRW undies.

Down voting is a self policing mechanism to let a poster know when he or she is heading in a bad direction and they need to stop and let it go.

Anyone using it for other reasons should just be banned from the forum.

Personally, I think requiring people to use their real name in their signature would eliminate much of the issues.

Jason understands it correctly.

I’m sure people will fat finger it (I’ll look to moving the arrows apart), or click the down arrow when they have no business doing so. If you’re of positive intent, don’t worry and I’ll figure it out. It’s not like I send a negative letter to your employer if you get a down vote.

I’m going to lock this now because I think we’ve discussed this enough. Just be decent to each other and remember that the words typed here may be misunderstood by the reader. Give the benefit of doubt. Oh, and stay in a single file line as I walk you to the cafeteria for lunch.
