Planning to visit NYC in the near future.
Any clubs or layouts worth visiting?
Suggestions appreciated.

Not in NYC, but the following two clubs are in northern NJ:

There is Gulliver's Gate. But when I went through recently I did a U-Turn when I saw the $35 entrance fee.

Probably better off seeing if the local Model clubs are open to visitors when you come over. Now the train stores in the city are pretty good even just to browse, big reason I'm not thaaat perturbed that the store in my town went under.

I'm actually in the area, and don't even know. I'm just trying to stay cognizant of the ever dwindling number of shops. :|

I would love to see a layout representative of the local modern rail services and yards like from the NY&A, SBRK, NYNJ, etc.

Thanks guys. Our stay in Manhattan was limited to three days, so there wasn’t much time for trains anyway. We did arrive on the Adirondack from Montreal, a lovely day ride this time of year (although the Hudson River section below Albany was mostly in darkness). And, we saw this interesting piece of equipment, running on the 1 line....

Looks like you saw one of the  NYC Transit Museum trains.  We live in New York City and the museum, in an old subway station in downtown Brooklyn, is a favorite.

Several times a year they roll out old trains.  Many people dress up circa 20's, 30's, 40's, etc.  People wear period outfits (men with fedoras!).

Anybody can get on at the stations they stop at.

From the photo my guess is that the train was headed to Yankees stadium for the playoffs against Minnesota Twins although the 1 line does not go to the stadium.

There is a HO layout in the basement of an apartment building in Long Island City/Astoria:  Queens County Model Railroad Association

Ah, the Low-V. Nice car to ride in. Incidentally, the MTA also breaks out the old buses on some crosstown routes too. You can ride in a model that looks straight out of The Honeymooners. :)

If only there were a licensed N scale line of subways...(I know there have been other scales from MTH, and printed cars from Island Model Works, but it's not the same). I'd love a ready to run R160 set.

Here's what we rode on last year.  Check out the ads.

Grandson more interested in skateboarding, duh.

I haven't heard of someone breaking their neck and ending up paralyzed running model trains, so you could use that as a selling point. ;)
