THanks for the suggestion!  I am going to try using styrene, which seems to be what many people use.  Thanks for posting.

@Bob,

Use black styrene.  That way, if it ever gets scratched, it will look like raw asphalt underneath and not bright white.  I start with Rustoleum Light Gray Automotive Primer and use white and yellow colored pencils for the highway markings.  Lastly, I weather the road with chalks.

Almost finished with this tower!
It's technically J/LEMO, but I like it, and it's close enough to NY tower in Portage, PA.

There is very little information on NY tower. We know that the one below was torn down and replaced with something else, but there's no pictures. But like I said, I like this model so I'm gonna roll with it.

Here's a Clerihew about Ed. K.

Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
But mention his law
and you've pulled your last straw!

Alternate version:
Ed Kapucinski
Every night, he plants a new tree.
He asks excitedly "Did you say Ménage à Trois?"
No, I said "Ed's Law."

Thanks to Ed K, I was invited to operate on the Deer Creek and Southern this past Saturday night. Transition era layout, so there were steam and switchers running around the rails. Here's a quick photo I grabbed towards the end of the session.

https://steamengineresource.weebly.com/operational-locomotives.html

As to why the 3985 isn't listed is probably because its future is uncertain.  When the 4014 was here in Ogden, I asked the engineer about it, and was told that it was #1 on their schedule to get it running again as soon as they got back to Cheyenne.  However, since then, I've read both BS and speculation about its actual future and what's wrong with it, as well as rumors (with evidence) that it was intentionally sabotaged by someone in authority so that it wouldn't run again. Current rumor is that the firebox had major problems, but the running history of the locomotive doesn't seem to bear this out.

Hopefully, there'll be a change of heart and the 3985 will run again, this time painted in gorgeous two-tone Greyhound Grey, with white stripes.

This list was a lot of fun to breeze through.  However, there are two engines not listed in it that should be listed.  Those are the full-sized steam replicas of the CP's Jupiter and UP's 119, both faithfully recreated in 1979 for the Promontory Historical Site in Promontory Utah.  Although they don't run much, they are certainly fully operational.

I’ve already finished adding the etched details and have reprimed them since I took this pic. Tomorrow: painting!

I'll agree that black styrene would be a better choice for roads.  It wasn't readily available when I was building my roads, but would solve the scratched-paint problems.

I just finished another N scale Jordan Spreader. I kept the weathering pretty light, as it will be well maintained on its new layout.

Fond memories...  My wife and I were there for Spike150.  So was a former squadron-mate and his family with whom we stayed.  I had been out to Promontory in March of 2015 and it was desolate, windswept, and quiet...in stark contrast to the celebration of 10 May 2019.

My Local NMRA div is having a boxcar challenge. Priority is going to be to "Superdetail" an Intermountain boxcar. But the requirements call for a diorama base so I took it as an opportunity to test new techniques.

A botched car of the same type is being used as a placeholder. I'm rolling with it being a low throughput fuel dealer. For the diorama the ole checklist is to weather the road lines so they aren't fluorescent, run some thread between the utility poles, weather the gravel lot, then finally add static grass all over the place.
