Some Fantastic Model Railfanning

The other night I was looking up some stuff on Japanese prototype layouts and I came across this blog: https://german160.wordpress.com/category/layout-visits/. It introduced me to some a neat layout and some wonderful videos made by Yuki Kazeful. https://www.youtube.com/user/yukikazeful

His videos have some of the best camera work and sound dubbing I've ever seen of a model railroad. Many times his videos really blur the line between what is real and what is a model.

Many times his videos really blur the line between what is real and what is a model.

Hopefully this doesn't sound churlish, but to be candid I didn't notice anything in there that approached near-realism appearance levels.  Definitely this shows some very nice model work, but the pics do look like models (little to no weathering, indoor lighting, model proportions/motions, ...).  By way of contrast, you can look at pics by @tom mann and other artists of his level, and have a very difficult time telling the difference from a real, 1:1 photo.

Obviously the quality of the model railroad highlighted in the video is very good... Someone or someone(s) has invested an awful lot of their time bringing that layout to such high quality.

Ed's point is well taken.  The images found in his links are jaw-dropping.  The work is top notch.

The challenge is taking what we see in images like these (and the many others posted on this board) and expanding them so they cover an entire layout... Detailing even a small layout to that level would take a great deal of time.  I don't think I've seen a larger layout on here that features the amount of detailing found in those images–It would be an incredibly difficult task.

And then you have video vs. still images– With video it's much harder to "fool" the viewer into thinking what they are seeing is anything but a model railroad.

The only missing is a scene with Godzilla wreaking havoc!
Overall some nice work though...
